Public Works Wastewater Division
About Our Wastewater Division
City Code Chapter 13 – Wastewater, Article 13-10 Grease Control
The City Code contains provisions in Article 13-10 of Chapter 13 aimed at controlling the discharge of grease, oil and fat from food preparation or food handling facilities into our wastewater collection system (sewer mains). Chapter 13 of the wastewater code is located on the City's website under City Documents. A member of the wastewater division staff inspects grease traps/interceptors on a quarterly basis to make sure they are properly maintained. Questions regarding grease traps/interceptors may be directed to wastewater staff at 204-2234.
Wastewater Collection System (sewer mains)
In order to reduce the occurrence of spills and overflows of untreated sewerage, the wastewater division is initiating a cleaning and inspection program of sewer mains. The program consists of cleaning approximately 150,000 feet of sewer lines on an annual basis and inspecting the cleaned lines using a small TV camera.
Reclaimed Wastewater and Sludge Disposal
The wastewater reclamation plant (also known as the wastewater treatment plant) applies treated effluent (reclaimed wastewater) for ground water recharge. An upgrade of the effluent management facilities at the treatment plant was completed in the first quarter of 2005. These upgrades included the construction of a new effluent pump station, development of 40 additional acres for land application of effluent and the development of twenty-five acres of additional wetlands/marsh habitat.
The solid waste resulting from the treatment process is taken to the Grey Wolf Landfill for disposal as cover material.
If you would like to visit the plant, please call 204-2234 at least five days in advance.
