Cliff grew up in a small town in Eastern Oregon similar in size to Sedona, helping out in a family construction business. He holds an undergraduate degree in wildlife and natural resources management and a masters degree in education. In his professional career, he blended those fields in public outreach, program development, training and education, working in state government, his own private business and non-profit organizations.

“I'm proud to bring significant experience to all four areas the Council deals with; business, government, non-profits and community volunteers. I feel very strongly about involving the public in all aspects of city government and giving people a genuine role in the decisions that affect their lives.”

Upon moving to Arizona from Oregon in 2000, Cliff was the first Executive Director of Wildlife for Tomorrow, a non-profit Foundation that serves the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

Prior to moving to Arizona, he directed workshops throughout the nation for the GLOBE Program, a Whitehouse science and education project initiated by Vice President Al Gore.
Cliff also operated his own private consulting company, providing services in education programs, public involvement, meeting facilitation and conflict resolution.

Cliff served much of his professional career in Oregon state government in roles including Education Supervisor, Chief of Public Affairs, Alternative Resources Manager and special assistant to the Deputy Director of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. He also served several years as a civilian employee of the Oregon State Police Department developing a statewide citizen volunteer program for that agency.

Cliff and his wife Katie have been full-time Sedona residents since 2002 and became active community volunteers shortly after their arrival. Both enjoy a wide range of travel and outdoor activities together. Cliff confesses his major hobby/vice is building and flying radio-controlled airplanes.
