Mayor's Arts Awards

The Mayor’s Arts Awards each year honor individuals, organizations, and businesses that have made outstanding contributions to the success of the arts in Sedona.   The Arts and Culture Commission is pleased to announce the Call for Nominations for the Third Annual Mayor's Arts Awards.  Nominations must be received or postmarked by Friday, July 30, 2010.

The Mayor’s Arts Awards recognize those who have contributed to the development and expansion of the arts in Sedona.  It does not address the quality or quantity of any particular individual or group’s artwork. The term “arts” refers to all aspects of the arts, including but not limited to music, literary, performing, dance, visual and film.

There are four nomination categories including Individual, Organization/Business, Lifetime Achievement, and Education.

The first two categories are for an individual, organization, gallery or other business who has made a significant contribution to the advancement, preservation or accessibility of the arts in Sedona, or who has demonstrated leadership in advancing the arts through advocacy, promotion, creativity, and innovation in development of the arts in Sedona.

The category of Lifetime Achievement is for an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in advancing and supporting the arts and/or artists in Sedona over a significant number of years.

The Education category is for an individual, organization, gallery or other business that has made significant contribution to the advancement or accessibility of arts education in the greater Sedona area, or demonstrated leadership in advancing arts education through advocacy, promotion, creativity, and innovation in the development of programs or venues in the greater Sedona area.

Currently appointed members of the Arts & Culture Commission review all nominations and approve the award recipients for each category.  Each recipient will be honored and receive an award at the third annual Mayor’s Arts Awards ceremony, sponsored by ILX Resorts Incorporated, scheduled for Thursday, November 18, 2010. The award is created by local artist Joanne Hiscox.

The Arts & Culture Commission anticipates the announcement of the Mayor’s Arts Award recipients by the end of September.

If you would like to receive an application for nomination, please contact Ginger Wolstencroft, Director of Arts & Culture, at 204-7119 or email Ginger Wolstencroft.
