Here’s a recap of recent City Council meetings and some decisions you might want to know about: 

• On March 8, 2022, a public hearing was held to discuss the continuation of Home Rule on the ballot. The City Council will hold a second public hearing and determine by resolution at a special meeting on March 22, 2022, whether to place the Home Rule option on the ballot. Approval of that resolution requires a supermajority, or two-thirds majority, vote of the Council. The Home Rule Option would then be voted on by the public at the Aug. 2, 2022 election. The City has operated under the Home Rule Option for 26 years. 

• On March 9, 2022, Coconino National Forest District Ranger Amy Tinderholt attended Council to present the U.S. Forest Service’s response, answer questions, listen to the public and engage in further discussion regarding the issues of off-highway vehicles. Last October, Council approved a letter to U.S. Forest Service requesting that they consider implementation of a limited access entry permitting system for motorized use trails in and around Sedona. The meeting was for discussion and direction only. 

• On Feb. 22, 2022, City Council approved a construction contract with Pima Paving Inc. in the amount of $803,883.01 for the Chapel Road Shared Use Path Improvements Project. The project is expected to be completed by the end of July 2022. 

• On Feb. 22, 2022, Council approved a construction contract with Fann Contracting, Inc. for the Forest Road Connection Project in the amount of $10,683,253. The project is anticipated to begin in March 2022 and be completed by early July 2023. 

The city is getting ready to launch trailhead shuttles on March 24. The new transit system, the Sedona Shuttle, will offer free park-and-ride shuttle service to Cathedral Rock, Dry Creek, Little Horse and Soldier Pass trailheads.

• Returning is the popular Sedona Food Truck Festival, sponsored by the Sedona Parks and Recreation Department. Now in its fourth year, the event will take place on Saturday, March 26, at Posse Grounds Park. Admission is free with food and beverages starting at $5. That same day, the City and Run Sedona will team up to host the Sedona Stumble, which begins at 9 a.m. at Posse Grounds Park. We hope to see you there! 

• The Celebration of Spring, hosted by the Sedona Parks and Recreation Department, is set for April 16 at Posse Grounds Park. Come for the carnival rides, or petting zoo. Stick around for the inflatables and egg hunts. Be sure to get your picture with the Easter Bunny or Itty Bitty Ponies. And check out all the local business and organization booths set up with fun, interactive displays. A $5 admission applies for youth 12 and under. Tickets on sale March 31st.
