City Council Recap
Here’s a recap of recent City Council meetings and some decisions you might want to know about:
- On July 12, 2022, City Council:
- Awarded $200,000 in grants to over 25 non-profit organizations as part of the Small Grants Program.
- Approved the Tentative Budget for Fiscal Year 2022 – 2023 at $105,745,040. This is comprised of an operating budget of $49,959,990 and a capital improvements budget of $55,785,050, with the most significant increases to the capital improvement budget in $13.0 million for traffic improvements, $18.2 million for acquisition of land for the strategic protection of the City’s future development and $4.3 million for wastewater system infrastructure needs. The tentative budget is balanced with available surpluses exceeding reserve requirements, including an estimated General Fund surplus of $24 million and an estimated Wastewater Fund surplus of $8.2 million. The final budget is scheduled for public hearing and final approval on August 9, 2022.
- Approved an underground utility easement with Arizona Public Service (APS) to allow the construction of electric vehicle chargers at Posse Grounds Park. The installation is part of APS’ Take Charge program and comes at no cost to the City. These should be operational this fall.
- Approved the adoption of the 2022 Stormwater Master Plan Update, which will replace the 2005 version. This new plan will be the road map for future projects and includes updated floodplain maps for all city properties. Don’t miss these other announcements:
- The Committee Fire east of Sedona is 70% contained. Thank you for all the coordination with our partner agencies like the U.S. Forest Service, Yavapai and Coconino counties, and the Sedona Fire District, and to the Hot Shot and air crews that helped fight this fire.
- Representatives from the Sedona Fire District, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, the Sedona Police Department, and city management proactively reviewed a preliminary evacuation map for Sedona’s city limits in light of the recent fire activity with the Committee Fire. The City and our partner agencies are prepared to execute an evacuation if and when it is needed.
- Looking for a free COVID-19 rapid test? Come grab one for free, first come, first served, at City Hall in the Police Department lobby, Monday – Thursday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.
- Don’t forget that Posse Grounds playground is closed for improvements including installation of new slides, swings, climbing boards, rubberized ground and shade structures. The new playground will be open by the end of September, but keep in mind Sunset Park’s playground and Splash Pad are open during this time.
