City Council Recap
Here’s a recap of recent City Council meetings and some decisions you might want to know about:
- On Mar. 14th, 2023, City Council approved a Professional Services Agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates in the amount if $148,000 for an Uptown Parking Alternatives and Site Analysis. The study is in follow-up to a 2019 analysis, and will reexamine if a parking garage is needed, if 430 and 460 Forest Road is the best location for a parking garage, and how the Uptown parking system and proposed garage would serve to support the City’s overall plans and vision.
- On Mar. 14th, 2023, City Council approved the resolution requesting that Sedona OHV Rental Companies launch a voluntary OHV Noise Reduction Initiative to identify and implement methods of reducing the noise generated by their rental vehicles. The City will work with the OHV industry to advance this initiative.
- On Mar. 28th, 2023, City Council voted to support a developer’s application to the Arizona Department of Housing for low-income housing tax credits. If the credits are awarded, the developer would lease the lot at 2250 Shelby Dr. from the City for the development of affordable housing.
- On Mar. 29th, 2023, City Council heard an update from the Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau (SCC&TB) on their accomplishments and key performance indicators for their current program of work in advance of consideration of a FY24 Program of Work and Budget. Also in this work session, City Council provided input on their vision and goals for tourism management to the Tourism Management Evaluation Work Group, led by citizen volunteers. This work group is also meeting with the SCC&TB to discuss what they see as the vision and goals for tourism management and will return tentatively on April 12th in a work session to discuss their findings and identify where there is alignment between the two entities. From there, the Council will be in a better position to provide direction regarding next steps towards tourism management and the future contractual relationship with the SCC&TB for FY24 and beyond.

Did You Know?
… that two flood-driven evacuations were conducted in March? Water levels in Oak Creek rose so high that Sedona Police Department Officers went door to door to evacuate residents near the waterway. We are appreciative of the support and precise communications of Coconino and Yavapai Counties, Sedona Fire District, and our very own Sedona Police Department for the seamless evacuation of specific neighborhoods in order to keep everyone safe. Be sure to sign up for emergency alerts at www.sedonaaz.gov/alerts.
