City Council Recap

Here’s a recap of recent City Council meetings and some decisions you might want to know about:

• On Jul. 11^th, 2023, City Council adopted the Tentative City of Sedona Budget which sets the expenditure limit for fiscal year 2024 at $85,819,620. Final adoption is scheduled for August 8^th.
• On Jul. 11^th, 2023, City Council approved the recommendations from the Small Grants Work Group for the Fiscal Year 2024 Small Grants Program in the amount of $200,000 for 27 local 501(c) organizations that provide a public service or benefit and are consistent with the City’s funding priorities. The amount each organization will receive is between $1,000 and $20,000 depending on the work group’s recommendations.
• On Jul. 11^th, 2023, City Council approved the site selection near the current tennis courts, for eight new pickleball courts to be constructed at Posse Grounds Park. The design will cost approximately $81,880. Construction is expected to begin this winter.

• The compost program has expanded with 50 more slots! You’re invited to participate in the Community Food Scraps Compost Program by filling out an easy form on our website.
• Apply now the 2023 Community Police Academy! This free eight-week program is designed for you to experience firsthand engagement with the Sedona Police Department to give you a better understanding of the department’s role within the community and foster collaborative relationships. This program is limited to 15 people and registration closes on August 27th.
• Also apply now for the 2023 Citizens Academy! In this free nine-week program, residents will receive a holistic understanding of how local government functions and how the city is tackling community topics like workforce housing, transit, traffic and more. This program is limited to 22 residents and registration closes on August 21st.
• Five in-person Housing Workshops to better inform the 10-year Community Plan update are coming up in August! Learn more the workshops and pick one that works for you.
• Do you know your evacuation zone? Make sure you’re prepared in the event of an emergency!
