City Council Recap

Here’s a recap of recent City Council meetings and some decisions that may interest you:

  • On Sept. 12, 2023, City Council tabled consideration of the Improper Motor Vehicle Ordinance until April 2024 in favor of a voluntary agreement with local OHV rental companies. The agreement includes that OHV rental companies will install safety equipment on their OHV fleets, quieter mufflers and support limits, guided tours and permitting on local off-road trails. Implementation of initial safety equipment is expected to occur within 60 days.
  • On Sept. 12, 2023, City Council set the roles and responsibilities of the Tourism Advisory Board (TAB). 21 interviews took place or are taking place on Sept. 28 and Oct. 4 and 5. The 11-person TAB is expected to be seated in Nov. 2023. The 12-month work plan will include advising on: a tourism strategic plan, brand/identity development, a summer marketing campaign(s), and a Sustainable Tourism Plan update.
  • On Sept. 26th, 2023, City Council received an overview on the work done to date towards the development of a City Tourism Program. Presentation and discussion topics included information on:

    1. The Tourism Advisory Board
    2. Data Driven Decision Making
    3. The Professional Travel Industry and accompanying Business Database
    4. Branding and Marketing efforts
    5. The Partnership with the Arizona Office of Tourism
  • On Sept. 27, 2023, City Council heard from City staff and Arizona Water Company on their collaborative work on a local Water Resource Assessment and Integrated Water Demand Management Program. Together, the availability of local water resources, groundwater modeling, supply and demand analyses, water adjudication issues and the possible legal ramifications of those adjudications, and an integrated demand management (water conservation) program for the greater Sedona area are being worked on. As more work is completed on these topics, updates will be brought back to City Council at future meetings.
