Welcome to the City of Sedona’s monthly newsletter! This is to help keep residents informed on City happenings. Read on for a round up of interesting news, events and announcements.

City Council Recap

Here’s a recap of recent City Council meetings and some decisions that may interest you:

  • On Jan. 8 and Jan. 9, 2024, City Council, a staff panel and a community panel interviewed Anette Spickard as a finalist for the City Manager position. The community was invited to a meet and greet on Jan. 8 and City staff met with her on Jan. 9. On Jan. 16, 2024, City Council discussed the appointment of Anette to City Manager. And on Jan. 23, 2024, City Council appointed Anette as the new City Manager; she will start on Apr. 8.
  • On Jan. 9, 2024, City Council approved the construction contract to build out the Historic Ranger Station Park shared-use path and parking lot in an amount not to exceed $252,872.75.
  • On Jan. 9, 2024, City Council directed staff to move forward with planning for the Safe Place to Park program. The program is a temporary solution, providing a safe parking area with showers and restrooms on approximately 5-acres of the City-owned Cultural Park property for vehicular homeless people who work locally or for families with children who attend local schools. Final details will be brought back to City Council at a future meeting.
  • On Jan. 23, 2024, City Council was introduced to new K9 dog Sam and his handler Officer Catherine Beers. Watch the latest Chit Chat with the Chief video to learn more about the K9 team.
  • On Jan. 23, 2024, City Council heard updates on the bills moving through the legislative process at the state level and gave direction on which bills they supported, opposed or wanted more information on.

Events and News

Save the date:

  • Residents are encouraged to take the online Budget Survey by February 5th to provide input on potential projects for consideration in the City’s upcoming Fiscal Year 2025 budget process.
  • Calling all neighborhoods, HOAs and organizations! The Sustainability Department has launched the new Sustainable Neighborhoods Pilot Program in which you take the lead on sustainability initiatives in your neighborhood. To learn more, attend an Open House on Monday, February 5th from 6:00-7:30 pm at The HUB at Posse Grounds Park at 525-B Posse Grounds Road.
  • Come celebrate southwest and indigenous art on Thursday, February 8th from 4:00-6:00 pm to view our new artists reception. Paintings created by Karen Taylor and paintings and ceramics created by Mariann Leahy will be on display through May 2nd. The special music guest at the reception will be Nathan "Saith" Gangadean.
  • Nominate your favorite artist for the Mayor’s Arts Awards! Nominations are due by Monday, March 25th.
  • The City will conduct its 2024 primary election on August 6th, and then, its General Election if necessary. If you are interested in serving on City Council, there are three council seats available for a four-year term, and the Mayor’s seat available for a two-year term. Pick up a candidate packet at the City Clerk’s Office at 102 Roadrunner Drive. Candidate nomination forms must be filed with the City Clerk between 7:00 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2024 and 5 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2024.
