Welcome to the City of Sedona’s monthly newsletter! This is to help keep residents informed on City happenings. Read on for a round up of interesting news, events and announcements.

City Council Recap

Here’s a recap of recent City Council meetings and some decisions that may interest you:

  • On Mar. 12, 2024, City Council approved the zone change request for the Safe Place to Park Program at the City-owned Cultural Park property. The contract with the Verde Valley Homeless Coalition to manage the Safe Place to Park Program was also approved.
  • On Mar. 26, 2024, City Council reviewed the zone change proposal to allow for development of a 110-room hotel and 40-unit multifamily housing project called the Village at Saddlerock Crossing. After hours of deliberation, City Council deferred consideration for up to 6 months to allow the applicant to address outstanding concerns and conduct additional public outreach. 
  • On Mar. 26, 2024, City Council adopted the 10-year Community Plan. This plan is a roadmap that guides the Council and staff through 2034. 
  • On Mar. 26, 2024, City Council decided to reschedule the discussion about the contract for services with the Sedona Chamber of Commerce for the operations of the Visitor Center for fiscal year 2025 to Apr. 9, 2024.
  • On Mar. 27, 2024, City Council conducted a work session with the Tourism Program. Council provided direction on the early phases of the destination brand development, and approved a concept and media plan for the summer stewardship campaign.

Did You Know

… that we offer a free smartphone mobile application called the “Sedona Citizens Connect”. The app allows residents to report non-emergency issues such as potholes, graffiti, flooding, abandoned vehicles, and loose animals. The mobile app allows better collaboration between residents and City staff to improve services in neighborhoods. Download the app in your smart phone’s app store.

Events and News

Save the date:

  • The Curbside Yard Waste Pickup event will take place between April 1 – May 15 to help with your yard maintenance, reduce your wildfire risk, and remove debris in drainage areas prior to monsoon season. Determine your pickup zone (which is the same as your evacuation zone) and learn more.
  • The free Sedona Trailhead Shuttles will run daily through April 21 to the most popular trailheads, including Dry Creek Vista, Mescal, Soldiers Pass, Little Horse, and Cathedral Rock. The shuttle operates between 7:00 am and 5:30 pm.
  • 501(c) organizations are invited to apply for funding through the Small Grants Program. Applications are due by 12:00 pm on Thursday, April 25, with awards finalized in July by City Council. Learn more and apply!
  • Prepare for the free Limited Household Electronics Collection and Paper Shred event on Saturday, April 27 from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm at the West Sedona School parking lot 570 Posse Ground Rd. Read the full list of acceptable and unacceptable items.
  • Nominate your favorite artist for the Mayor’s Arts Awards! Nominations are due by Tuesday, April 30.
  • The Community Police Academy is coming up from May 7 through June 18 on Tuesdays from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Apply before April 23.
