City Council Recap
Here’s a recap of recent City Council meetings and some decisions that may interest you:
- On Apr. 9, 2024, after discussing the new Proposed Strategies for Motorized Visitor Use Management in the Greater Sedona Area Plan created by the Greater Sedona Recreation Collaborative (GSRC), City Council advised staff to work with the USFS regarding strategies, priorities, projects, and potential funding opportunities.
- In the following agenda item, City Council directed staff to begin to explore the possibility of creating and implementing a City OHV permitting program.
- On Apr. 9, 2024, City Council approved a contract for services with the Sedona Chamber of Commerce in the amount of $341,228 for the operations of the Visitor Center for fiscal year 2025.
- On Apr. 17 and 18, 2024, City Council conducted a work session for their annual Budget Retreat for the fiscal year 2024-2025 (FY25) budget. Some new tentatively approved positions for FY25 include an HR Specialist, a Tourism Coordinator, a Program Manager for Parking and Trails, a Facilities Maintenance Worker, an Evidence Technician and Victim Services Specialist for the Sedona Police Department and a Court Clerk. New initiatives tentatively approved for FY25 include destination marketing, Autism and Sensory Awareness Guides and Training, Skate Park lighting at Posse Grounds Park, Wi-Fi at the Wastewater Treatment Plant and a new Snowplow/Supervisor Truck. City Council will vote to approve the tentative budget on May 28 with the final adoption scheduled for June 25.
- On Apr. 23, 2024, in Executive Session, City Council decided to hold on the Safe Place to Park program until after the results of the November local election due to the completed referendum petition.
- On Apr. 23, 2024, City Council approved a request to subdivide 2.65 acres into a 4-unit single family subdivision on Forest Road.
- On Apr. 23, 2024, City Council approved a voluntary Sister Cities’ Friendship Agreement with Canmore, Alberta Canada.
- On Apr. 24, 2024, City Council received a quarterly update on Sedona In Motion (SIM) projects, including the status of the Pedestrian Crossing on Oak Creek, the Forest Road Connection and the recently completed Uptown Roadway Improvement Projects. A new dashboard was also discussed for residents to track the progress of SIM projects.

Events and News
Save the date:
- The Curbside Yard Waste Pickup event is currently taking place through May 15 to help with your yard maintenance, reduce your wildfire risk, and remove debris in drainage areas prior to monsoon season. Determine your pickup zone (which is the same as your evacuation zone) and learn more.
- The Spring Red Dirt Concert Series is back every Friday in May from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Posse Grounds Pavilion!
- Four youth summer sports camps are available for registration including mountain biking, soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Specialty camps are also open for registration including yoga, dancing, drawing, coding, botanist, STEAM and drama.
- Water Aerobics at the Sedona Community Pool begins on May 28, 4-days a week from Tuesday through Fridays starting at 10:05 am. There will also be three youth swim lesson sessions this summer. Register now!
- Looking for something fun to do every Thursday and Friday this summer? Sign up for co-ed Adult Softball and new Bocce Ball Leagues!
