City Council Recap

Below are the highlights of the March City Council meetings and some decisions that may interest you:

  • On March 11, 2025, City Council approved a 1-year contract for $351,440 for Fiscal Year 2026, with an option to renew in Fiscal Year 2027 for $358,892 with the Greater Sedona Chamber of Commerce for continued operation of the Uptown Visitor Center. City Council also approved the purchase of digital kiosks for $115,000 to serve visitors with digital, educational materials at up to three locations in highly visited areas.
  • On March 11, 2025, City Council approved HS Development Partners to apply for a competitive 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) in this year’s federal funding cycle with a submittal deadline of April 1, 2025. Contingent upon receiving the 9% LIHTC funding award and successfully negotiating a Lease Agreement with the City, HS Development Partners proposed a Multifamily Housing development at 2411 W. SR 89A. The parcel, now owned by the City, was recently purchased for affordable housing. The developer proposed 36 to 40 units with rents between 40 and 60% Area Median Income (AMI). This would equate to a 1-bedroom for $547 - $933 and a 2-bedroom from $747 to $1,120.
  • On March 25, 2025, City Council approved an Ordinance to annex approximately 3,422 acres of land, including the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Dells, into the City’s jurisdictional boundaries. With the building of a Transit Maintenance and Operations Center on City-owned land near the Wastewater Treatment Plant and possible future development of the Dells, it’s important to the City that these developments reside within City limits. If residential property is ever built at the Dells, those residents would have the right to vote in City elections. The annexed property outside of the Dells and the Wastewater Treatment Plant in the Coconino National Forest will remain undeveloped publicly owned land for the foreseeable future. Now, the annexation is expected to become effective on April 24, 2025.
  • On March 26, 2025, City Council heard from Arizona Public Service (APS) regarding their wildfire preparedness plans. New tools in APS’ fire mitigation toolbox include the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) program and the plan to install AI cameras in strategic locations to detect fires which would then trigger the PSPS system. If you’d like to know more about wildfire preparedness, come to the April 2 meeting listed below.
