City Council Recap

Below are the highlights of the February City Council meetings and some decisions that may interest you:

  • On Feb. 10, 2026, City Council approved a zone change from Single-Family Residential to High-Density Multifamily to allow for the construction of 51 multifamily units located at 60 Goodrow Ln. Half of the units will be designated for households making less than 120% of the area median income and all units will be long-term rentals for at least 10 years. The property is 2.9 acres and located to the east of the Wilde Resort and north of the currently under construction Alkemista project.
  • On Feb. 10, 2026, City Council approved a request to submit an application for a Federal Transit Administration grant to the Arizona Department of Transportation for FY27 and FY28 to support existing transit operations, administration and fleet investments. The combined two-year application includes $2,455,876 in federal funding and $1,164,016 in a required local match. The City will find out if we are awarded the grant in May or June of 2026.
  • On Feb. 10, 2026, City Council approved the first Community Conversation theme to be “Needs of families and seniors in our community,” which will be held at the Community Library Sedona on Wednesday, April 29 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The purpose of Community Conversations is to discuss topics of significance to the community to understand the differing perspectives and to seek common ground.
  • On Feb. 11, 2026, City Council conducted a fiscal year 2027 (FY27) budget Work Session to support early coordination between Council and staff, helping refine budgetary requests, identify potential trade-offs, and inform development of the recommended budget that will be presented for Council consideration later in the process. Staff anticipates a decrease of 15-20% from the Capital Improvement Project plan from last fiscal year. This decrease is partially driven by the anticipated completion of the Uptown Parking Garage in FY26, and an effort by staff to spread out capital projects over the ten-year planning horizon to better reflect staff capacity and to avoid construction fatigue with the community.
  • On Feb. 24, 2026, City Council appointed six residents to the City Council Compensation Work Group to advise City Council on a decision about a monthly salary starting after the Primary Election of 2026.
  • On Feb. 24, 2026, City Council conducted a Public Hearing on an Alternative Expenditure Limitation Home Rule option regarding the city budget.
  • On Feb. 24, 2026, City Council approved an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the City of Sedona and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) regarding the construction of Brewer Road Shared Use Path in the amount of $2,787,286.00 ($158,875 paid for by the City). The project consists of a .4 miles, 8- to 10-foot-wide shared-use path along the west side of Brewer Road, connecting Ranger Station Park to the Brewer Trailhead. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2026.
  • On Feb. 25, 2026, the Sustainability team gave an update to City Council regarding progress on the 2024 Municipal and Community Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventories, public EV charging strategy, and programming updates. Council directed staff to explore options for heat mitigation, cooling centers and resiliency hubs.
