City invites community to an open house for municipal decarbonization planning and design projects

Post Date:04/15/2026 7:38 a.m.

SEDONA, Ariz. – On Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 4 to 6 p.m., at The Hub, located at 525-B Posse Ground Rd., the city of Sedona will host an open house seeking input on city-owned buildings, electric car chargers, solar panels and other projects that will assist the city in its efforts to meet municipal operations carbon neutrality goals.

This public input session is part of a planning and design project being completed with Alternative Energy Systems Consulting for each of the projects identified in a municipal decarbonization roadmap that was established as part of the Municipal Sustainability Plan. Attendees will be provided a project overview and timeline, along with opportunities to provide feedback to the planning and design team on the projects. Even though the projects will help reduce the city’s emissions as an organization and not community-wide, getting public feedback on the projects ensures they align with community interests.

Background In November of 2023, the city created a decarbonization roadmap for municipal operations to advance greenhouse gas emissions reductions goals found in the Climate Action Plan and Municipal Sustainability Plan. Projects identified in the roadmap were estimated to be completed over a 5-year period. This planning and design phase represents the critical next step in moving the roadmap from conceptual recommendations to implementation-ready projects. Without this engineering work, the city cannot competitively pursue future grants, refine cost estimates or begin construction on identified decarbonization improvements.

More information The planning and design project is funded by an Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant through the Arizona Governor’s Office of Resiliency.

For additional details on the open house, contact the city’s Sustainability Department at sustainability@sedonaaz.gov or (928) 203-5127.
