Sedona Police Department installs outdoor warning sirens

Post Date:06/02/2026 5:31 p.m.

SEDONA, Ariz. – The city of Sedona recently enhanced community safety with the installation of three new outdoor warning sirens that will activate when needed to broadcast emergency notifications in Uptown and on Brewer Road.

The Outdoor Warning Siren System is intended to provide critical emergency information during incidents such as wildfires, flash floods, law enforcement emergencies and other emergent situations. Importantly, the system will help notify residents and visitors who may not have reliable cellular service, internet access or emergency alerts enabled on their devices. The three sirens serve as a pilot project in which the city will test the viability of future additional sirens in other parts of Sedona.

The modern system is capable of:

  • Spoken voice messaging for clear emergency instructions.
  • Audible warning tones for rapid public notification.
  • Remote silent testing of the system. This allows the city to test the functionality of the siren at no volume so that there aren’t disruptions to the neighborhood.

The specific locations of the sirens are:

  • Ranger Station Park, with the siren at 221 Brewer Road
  • Uptown Sedona, with the siren at the Uptown Parking Garage
  • Upper Uptown area, with the siren at 35 Thompson Trail

While no single notification method reaches everyone, this system adds another important layer to Sedona's notification network, and in conjunction with Nixle, helps strengthen community preparedness and resilience. The sirens also have the ability to run on solar power so that if, in the event of an emergency, there is no longer hard-wired power to the system, they can still operate.

In partnership with Coconino County, two of the three siren sites were funded by a grant provided through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Additionally, in keeping with Sedona's unique character and scenic beauty, the sirens have been specifically colored to conform with the city's Land Development Code and blend thoughtfully into the surrounding environment.

More information about testing schedules, alert tones and emergency preparedness resources will be shared soon. Sign up for city emergency alerts by texting the word Redrocks to 888777; sign up for the county alert systems and access more helpful emergency management information at www.sedonaaz.gov/ready.
