Highlights: Sunday's minimal fire growth allowed firefighters to begin establishing a long-term strategic suppression plan. Additional resources have been added to the fire both to engage in the fire fight and to stage for initial attack if needed.

Operations: The strategy on this fire remains direct extinguishment full suppression and the No. 1 priority is public and firefighter safety. Firefighters will only engage in tactics where benefits outweigh risks. Firefighters are working out of two remote spike camps to reduce driving times and risk while increasing their effective workdays. Night operations continue to take advantage of lower temperatures, higher relative humidity and reduced fire intensity. Arriving resources are being delegated to fire areas where they are needed most. The structure protection group is continuing to capitalize on work done during the 2014 Slide Fire. Prep work continued along FR 231 using ground crews and helicopter support in case the fire moves to the west. Initial attack resources are available for new starts.

Evacuations: Oak Creek Canyon between Sedona and Forest Highlands remains under a GO evacuation order. State Route 89A is closed from Sedona to Ft. Tuthill. Woody Mountain Road (FR 231) is closed. The American Red Cross is maintaining an evacuation shelter at Red Rock High School, 995 Upper Red Rock Loop Road, Sedona, Arizona 86336. Weather: Today and Tuesday will continue to be hot, dry and windy. Winds are expected to gust as high at 17 mph. Durnal winds blow down from the rim into canyons in the mornings. Wednesday and Thursday will be cooler and bring some scattered rain showers and the possibility of thunderstorms. Outdrafts around thunderstorms will be unpredictable in both speed and direction. 

Closures and Warnings: A portion of Coconino National Forest around the Pocket Fire is closed to the public to ensure safety of the public and firefighters. Safety: Crews and heavy equipment are active in and around the incident. The safety of firefighters and the public is our highest priority, and everyone should be aware of ongoing operations. Fire personnel continue working along area road systems, and increased caution from the public helps keep both firefighters and community members safe.
