April 2026 Sales & Bed Tax Overview

For April 2026, sales tax collection of $3,668,625.09 is 4% higher than April 2025.  The April 2026 bed tax of $1,112,764.60 is 9% higher than April 2025. The combined total April 2026 Sales & Bed Tax is $4,781,389.69, which is 5% higher than the combined sales and bed tax total for April 2025.

 

Additional Highlights

April is usually the second-highest month for combined sales and bed tax collections, and April 2026 ranked second overall in FY26 so far.
April 2026 was also the highest combined April sales and bed tax total recorded in the past 10 years.

Of the $4,781,389.69 reported, $4,406,845.42 is attributed specifically to April activity; the remainder reflects prior months adjustments or corrected filings.

  

Sales and Bed Tax Revenues by Category Comparison to April 2025 with a ±10% Variance

• Construction – up 60%
• Leasing – up 16%
• Amusements & Other – down 17%

 

Construction – up 60%
Construction activity increased by 60% in April 2026. Favorable temperatures allowed projects to progress on schedule, and overall development activity remains higher than April 2025.

 

Leasing – up 16%
Leasing revenues increased 16% compared to the same period last year, reflecting stable leasing activity and higher reported collections year over year.

 

Amusements & Other – down 17%
The Amusements & Other category dropped 17%, reflecting reduced engagement in various leisure and recreational activities.

 

Hotel/Motel Sales Tax and Bed Tax – up 9%

Spring holidays occurred earlier in April 2026 than in April 2025, affecting year-over-year comparisons.  Traditional hotel properties experienced lower occupancy rates, down 7.2% from the prior year, although average daily room rates increased 9.1%.  At the same time, short-term rentals and timeshares reported stronger activity compared to April 2025.  Overall, combined hotel/motel sales tax and bed tax revenues rose 9% year over year, reflecting higher reported collections.

• Sales tax is 12% above budget expectations year-to-date.
• Bed tax is 14% above budget expectations year-to-date.
• Combined revenues are 13% above budget expectations.
