Highlights: Containment increases to 51% the Pocket Fire.

 

Operations: Tuesday, firefighting personnel are going direct around the Secret Cabin and monitoring the fire with aircraft where personnel entry is hazardous. In the southwest corner of the fire, dozers will construct hardened fire lines, perform suppression repair and prep structures. In the 89A and Oak Creek Canyon area, firefighters are constructing a contingency line. The Enchantment and Seven Canyons communities remain secure and crews are patrolling the area. Dozers will work outside the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness to hold the fire’s current footprint.

 

Firefighters are patrolling and securing the fire’s north side, to ensure fire lines will hold and monitor the fire as it backs downhill in the central area. As safety allows crews will work directly along the fire’s edge to stop its movement. If conditions do not allow direct engagement, firefighters will guide the fire along existing dozer lines into areas that have already burned, helping to keep it contained.

In the south corner, crews will strengthen existing fire lines and build direct line as terrain and safety permit. In the Cedar Canyon area, a short section cannot be accessed on foot due to steep, unstable terrain. This area will be closely monitored and targeted water or retardant drops will strengthen holding lines.

Weather: Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected today, with little to no moisture over the fire’s perimeter. Temperatures in the 80s are forecasted for higher elevations while the lower valleys will be about 100 degrees.
