Highlights: Containment increases to 69% on the Pocket Fire.
Operations: Today, firefighters continue to patrol the control lines along the northern perimeter to ensure they are holding. Contingency crews will keep access routes open for assigned units and complete preparation and chipping work along the contingency lines. Dozer lines remain secure, and mop‑up operations advance above most of Oak Creek Canyon, however, full containment has not yet been achieved. Because the West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon is inaccessible to ground crews, aircraft continue supporting suppression using retardant as needed to slow the fire’s movement eastward.
Along the southeastern perimeter, handlines are holding well and show significantly reduced smoke. Mop‑up operations in Bear Sign Canyon and H S Canyon are progressing, and fire activity in these areas is declining.
On the southwest edge nearing Hart Well Canyon, where fire activity remains most active, crews continue building handlines and establish additional contingency lines to provide a secondary defense. Additional contingency locations are being identified to protect values at risk, including heritage sites.
Evacuations and Closures: The Yavapai County Sheriff (928-771-3260) has put the zone containing Seven Canyons and Enchantment into SET status. The map is available at

Weather: Winds shift more directly from the west today, keeping smoke primarily south of Flagstaff. Ridgetops may experience west winds of 10–15 mph with gusts up to 20–22 mph. Temperatures reach the low 90s over the northern portion of the fire and the low 100s in lower‑elevation areas along the southern edge.
