City Council Recap

Below are the highlights of the July City Council meetings and some decisions that may interest you:

• On July 14, 2026, City Council designated Anna's Hummingbird as Sedona's Official Bird.
• On July 14, 2026, City Council approved the volunteer Grant Review Committee recommendations for the fiscal year 2027 Small Grant Program in the amount of $350,000 and the Arts and Culture Grant Program in the amount of $200,000. Council also approved funding the following seven Community Service Providers with a total of $2,728,915 to assist with operating costs: Humane Society of Sedona, Sedona Community Center, Sedona Historical Society, Community Library Sedona, Sedona Recycles, Verde Valley Caregivers and the Hope House of Sedona.
• On July 14, 2026, City Council authorized the City Manager to use up to $150,000 to increase the paid advertising spend for destination marketing campaigns conducted by the Tourism Program.

Did you Know…

…that the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) SR 89A Guardrail Replacement Project in Oak Creek Canyon is now complete? ADOT spent the summer removing and replacing guardrails, repairing barrier walls and repairing the pavement to make the roadway safer for vehicles.

News

• Nighttime road improvements began on August 12 and will continue August 16 and 17 from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. from SR 89A from Forest Rd. to L’Auberge Ln. in Uptown.
• The City now offers afterschool programs for kids grades K-5, Mondays through Thursdays. Programs include STEAM, Lacrosse, yoga, and arts and crafts.
• The City is seeking two Planning and Zoning Commission members.
• Several job openings are available! See if your dream career is available.

Events

• A virtual webinar about solar energy will be held on August 20. Learn more about the Northern Arizona Switch Together Co-Op and how to join the program.
• On August 24 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. the Sedona Police Department, the Sedona Fire District and the Verde Valley Regional SWAT team are having a multi-agency, full-scale training exercise at 401 Jordan Rd. in Uptown to practice their collaborative response to various public safety threats. During the exercise it may seem like the real thing, but noises and law enforcement activity are part of the training and not a real response.
• The annual Citizens Academy and the fall Community Police Academy are free programs offered to the community and are now open for registration. Classes begin in mid-September.
• Apply to become a vendor, exhibitor, presenter and/or sponsor at our signature community events this fall, including the WagFest on October 3 and Fest of Fall on October 17.
