SEDONA, Ariz. – The city welcomes applications for two upcoming free community academies: the Citizens Academy and the Community Police Academy.
The Citizens Academy
The Citizens Academy is for city of Sedona residents to receive a holistic understanding of how local government functions and learn about how the city is tackling topics like workforce housing, transit, traffic and more.
With presentations from City Council and each of the city departments, the academy is a free, nine-session program held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Mondays, Sept. 21 to Nov. 16, 2026 in the Vultee Conference Room at City Hall, located at 106 Roadrunner Dr. There will also be an optional tour of the Sedona Wastewater Treatment Plant on Nov. 10, 2026. Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2026 City Council meeting.
Citizens who complete this academy are encouraged to participate in the Citizen Engagement Program and apply for vacancies on city boards, commissions and work groups.
To apply, go to www.sedonaaz.gov/citizensacademy. The deadline for applications is Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026 and the class is limited to the first 22 resident applicants. Residents aged 14 to 18 may apply with consent from their parent or guardian.
The Community Police Academy
The Community Police Academy is for city of Sedona residents and members of the local business community to receive firsthand engagement with the Sedona Police Department, have a better understanding of the department’s role within the community and foster a collaborative relationship with residents.
The course curriculum includes patrol procedures, crime scene investigations, traffic control, firearms, specialty assignments, volunteers and much more.
Classes are held from 6 to 9 p.m., on Wednesday evenings, starting on Sept. 23, 2026 for eight weeks in the Vultee Conference Room at City Hall, located at 106 Roadrunner Rd. Participants will receive a certificate of completion at Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2026 City Council meeting.
The Community Police Academy is a great first step for those interested in volunteering for the Sedona Police Department.
