Students at Sedona Charter School touch up the math section of a mural showing Five Montessori Life Lessons as part of the Artist in the Classroom program.

Artist in the Classroom is a program offered by the City of Sedona that recruits artists, connects them with local schools, and compensates them for teaching art in the classroom.

Artists, teachers, and school administrators can contact the Arts and Culture Department to learn more or apply. All participating artists must successfully pass a background check.

Rewarding, creative learning experiences

The Artist in the Classroom program has provided quality arts education to pre K-12 students in the city since 1989. Artists have enriched arts education with expertise in poetry, dance, music, drawing, painting, journaling, clay sculpting, weaving, theater, storytelling, and more.

The program offers creative and rewarding learning experiences for children of all ages. Artists specializing in fine or visual arts, art history, architecture, performing arts, music, literary arts, or culinary arts are encouraged to participate, with particular interest in skills like drawing, painting, weaving, and storytelling.

Artists collaborate with teachers to plan art projects that enhance the curriculum, with workshops ranging from one-time sessions to recurring classes.
