The Fire Safe Sedona Program helps property owners and neighborhoods become more resilient to wildfires. It provides information, resources, and support so residents can better understand wildfire risks and take meaningful steps to reduce them.

The City launched this program in response to community priorities. Wildfire risk was identified as a top concern in the 2024 Community Survey, and City Council identified it as a major priority for 2026. The program helps address these concerns by supporting local wildfire preparedness. Additionally, the program aims to stabilize insurance rates and build confidence with the insurance industry.

The program works with the Sedona Fire District to adds a more proactive, collaborative approach. The program works with partners to reduce wildfire risk and aims to improve confidence from insurance underwriters which may help stabilize insurance premiums over time.

The Firewise USA Program is a national program helping residents get organized, identify risks, and take action to improve wildfire resistance at both the home and neighborhood level. It is recognized by insurers only when a neighborhood earns community certification. Choose this option if you can get enough homeowners in your neighborhood that will meet the requirements.

The IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home Program provides a designation to individual homeowners who complete specific wildfire‑risk reduction improvements established by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety. These science‑based standards meaningfully reduce wildfire vulnerability. Choose this option if you want an individual home certification designation.

City staff will host workshops at community events, HOA meetings, and other local gatherings to educate and encourage homeowners to mitigate their properties. Staff also encourages neighborhood leaders to schedule a community‑level assessment to get the process started in partnership with the Sedona Fire District.
